Itinerary

On this free walking tour of Budapest you will immerse yourself in the city's history, a place that was previously ruled by Romans, Ottomans and Germans. You will learn how Buda and Pest were unified to become one city now rightfully called the Pearl of the Danube.

After meeting your guide, you will begin to hear about the greatness of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and how it shaped the Budapest of today. You will discover the impact of World War II and how Hungary became an ally of Hitler, the communist era and the Revolution of '56. You will also hear stories about Sissi Empress, the popular queen of Hungary.

You'll walk among World Heritage buildings such as St. Stephen's Basilica - the largest church in Budapest - to find out, among many curious facts, whose mummified hand is inside.

We'll get to to Freedom Square where you'll see the controversial Memorial to the Victims of the German Invasion: a stone statue of the Archangel Gabriel - Hungary's national symbol - being attacked by an eagle with its talons outstretched. You'll find out why it generates so much controversy among locals as well as other stories about WWII memorials.

The must-see free tour of Budapest will also take you to the majestic Budapest Parliament. This incredible monument, built between 1885 and 1904 on the banks of the Danube River, is the second largest parliament in the world and the symbol of the city.
